In the past we have ranked the best Mario Games and Mario Songs, but this week we are wrapping our trifecta of Mario episodes and exploring the creative wondrous abilities that our favourite Nintendo mascot has been bestowed over the decades – his power ups! So join Tuong La and his rag tag team of Tenacious Toads Spencer Moreland, Joshua Mayo, and Samantha Leggatt as they chomp down on a magic mushroom, touch a shiny star, and rank Top 5 Mario Power Ups!

Ground Rules

• We are only talking about Mario Power Ups from the platformer games (so no Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, etc.)
• This is not the most powerful or useful power ups, although that can be part of the discussion, it’s simply just our favourites
• Yoshi himself and Yoshi Power Ups don’t count
• Cappy from Super Mario Odyssey can throw himself onto all sorts of enemies and transform Mario. To make it fair, we will treat each “Cappy” transformation as one power up.
• Same goes for the “Wonder Flower” in Super Mario Wonder. The Wonder Flower itself doesn’t count but if it transforms Mario himself than that specific transformation would count.
